02:18 pm - Some thoughts and observations on video gaming at the North Greenwood Library There are some skeptics out there who may think gaming at the library is not a productive activity, but before any judgments are made, they should observe a gaming session at one of our libraries.
While kids and teens can use the library computers to game at any time, group gaming sessions foster cooperation, sharing, and camaraderie. As I sit in the back, I am almost invisible to the kids. They themselves determine when their time is up on the Wii and give up their controller. They themselves decide when they want to change games on the PS2. They help each other out when someone is not familiar with a particular game. The gaming room becomes a little democratic society where the decisions are not made by one person, but by the kids. They learning to work together and are having fun in the library at the same time. Isn’t this what it is all about?
Come join us at the North Greenwood Library for our next gaming session on October 16th @ 4:00 PM or check out the action at the East Branch on October 13th @ 1:00 PM, or at the Main Library October 23 @ 5:30 PM. Gaming @ your Library. It’s more than just playing games...

"Everyday, libraries in big cities and small towns, colleges and universities, in schools and in businesses help transform their communities," says Barbara Pickell, Library Director. "At our library, people of all backgrounds can come together for community meetings, lectures and programs, to do research with the assistance of a trained professional, to get a job or to find homework help."
First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April.
